HMS Warrior 1860
As you arrive in Portsmouth’s dockyard it’s hard to miss this stunning black warship. It was ones of Britain’s first ever iron-hulled, armoured warship. Launched in 1860 it was the pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet. Powered by steam and sail, she was the largest, fastest and most powerful ship of her day. In them times she was the ultimate deterrent. Yet within a few years she was obsolete. Restored and back at her home in Portsmouth. Open 362 days of the year Warrior now serves as a ship museum and visitor attraction.
